Silek MInangkabau Encyclopedia Becomes The Opening Gift Of SAF 2019

Padang,KANALSUMATERA.com- The opening of the 2019 Silek Arts Festival (SAF) was the momentum for the launch of the Minangkabau Silek Encyclopedia book in collaboration with the Department of Culture and the Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Andalas University.

The 197-page book was symbolically handed over by the Head of the Culture Office Gemala Ranti to the W Sumatra Governor, Irwan Prayitno and Secretary to the Director General of Culture of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Sri Hartini in Padang on Monday night.

Gemala said the collected books were an attempt to disseminate information about silek and make it a shared knowledge.
Various information about silek in the book are expected to be one of the references and sources of knowledge for the next generation.

Meanwhile, Chief Editor of the Minangkabau Silek Encyclopedia, Sudarmoko said the book that was launched was still in a limited edition and would soon be reprinted with a few additions, especially photographs and illustrations.

In content, the contents of the encyclopedia are also "open" which means it can be updated continuously until it becomes more complete and complete information.

"There are still many entries about silek that have not been included in the book and still need additions and improvements. Hopefully in the next publication, entries that are still scattered can be added, "he said.

While the Chairperson of LPPM Unand Dr. Ing Uyung Gatot S Dinata, MT said that encyclopedias are media that maintain the quality of information because they have passed the stages to maximally summarize information in accordance with their discussion.

The entries compiled in the book include targets, movement, flow, weapons, clothing and the entire ecosystem of silek. However, because the subject matter is very broad, there is still information that has not been summarized so that further efforts are needed to improve it.

SAF 2019 was officially opened by the Governor of W Sumatra, Irwan Prayitno and Secretary of the Director General of Culture of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Sri Hartini. Also present at the event were a number of regional heads and tuo-tuo silek in Minangkabau.
